Double Deep Pallet Racking
Fewer aisles. More pallets. Same building.
Double Deep Pallet Racking
An aisle is dead space for most of the day. Double deep racking cuts the number of them by storing pallets two positions deep instead of one, which typically buys you around 30% more pallet positions in the same footprint.
The trade-off is access: you can only reach the front pallet directly, so it suits operations running several pallets of the same SKU rather than a huge spread of one-off items. You will need a reach truck fitted with a pantograph fork, but for the right stock profile the density gain pays for that fast.

Why choose this system.
Around 30% more pallet positions than selective
Fewer aisles, meaningfully more storage per square metre
Built for multiple pallets per SKU, not a long tail of one-offs
One of the cheaper ways to add real density
Built to your requirement.

Typical applications
The engineering behind it.
Two standard racking rows sit back to back with no aisle between them, accessed from a single aisle in front using a reach truck fitted with a pantograph or telescopic fork that extends to reach the rear position. The front and rear pallet positions share the same beam level, so load ratings are calculated for the combined weight of both pallets on that level, not just one.
Removing every second aisle typically lifts pallet positions by around 30% on the same floor area. The gain is highest when most SKUs are stored in matched pairs, since a single odd pallet in a rear position still occupies a full two-deep slot.
What buyers usually ask.
Do I need a special forklift for double deep racking?
Yes, a reach truck fitted with a pantograph or telescopic fork is required to reach the rear pallet position. A standard reach truck or counterbalance forklift cannot access it.
What happens if I only have one pallet for a SKU, not two?
The rear position sits empty until a second pallet of that SKU arrives, so the density gain only fully applies to SKUs you typically hold two or more pallets of at once. We help you work out which of your SKUs actually fit this format before recommending it.
Can double deep racking convert back to selective later?
Yes, the frames and beams are the same components, just arranged differently. Reconfiguring is possible, though it does mean re-laying out the aisles.
